I took this picture at an exotic animal petting zoo during our holiday trip to Washington state. It might be one of my favorite pics of my kids ever.
Our local zoo here in San Diego has capybaras, but you definitely can’t get up close and personal with them like my daughter is doing here!
Prior to me taking this picture, the smallest of the pictured capybaras had climbed into my lap while I was trying to get a shot of the kids with the zebra. Capybaras, which are the world’s largest rodents, are cuddly and affectionate like guinea pigs but a bit prickly like an actual pig.
Between the adorable picture above and the little capybara who sat on my lap, you better believe there is a Google search in my history for “keeping capybaras as pets.”
(FYI. Not going to to happen. For starters, we don’t have a lagoon in our backyard and it’s mostly likely illegal in California.)
