I’m excited to share the news that my debut novel, Lessons in Gravity, is a finalist for the Contemporary Romance Writers’ Stiletto Contest. The chapter will announce the winners during the Romance Writers of America national convention next month in Orlando.
On a sidenote, stilettos have long been a symbol of chicklit books (books which are now shelved in either contemporary romance, women’s fiction, or new adult). However, if Lessons in Gravity had a symbolic shoe, it would be a pair of rock climbing shoes or muddy hiking boots, which is about as opposite as you can get from the glamorous stiletto. So, as a person who loves romantic fiction as well as non-glamorous outdoor adventure pursuits, the honor of being a finalist in this particular contest is extra-special to me because it’s a bit of affirmation that these two very different interests are not mutually exclusive.
Falling for the star of a rock climbing documentary is not a good idea, especially if you’re the filmmaking intern who will be dangling from the side of a three thousand foot cliff with a camera while he climbs Yosemite National Park’s most treacherous spire without a rope.
“Lessons in Gravity was everything I want in a book–fantastic characters, unique story, gripping action, and a love story that will capture your heart. I can’t wait to recommend this book to everyone I know!” – New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Cora Carmack
“An emotional, touching story of overcoming your deepest fear for the sake of finding true love.” – USA Today bestselling author Jennifer Blackwood

If you’re interested in more adventure sport romance novels, I keep an outdoor adventure fiction list. (I suspect my list is incomplete, so please let me know if you’ve read one that isn’t listed!)
